Tom Irvin Myers an Enola PA railroad engineer drowned while aiding two young women in the Conodoguinet Creek near West Fairview. He saved Miss Mabel Updegrove and Miss Bertha Elling who fainted in the water. Mrs. Julia Martin rowed to help. Myers’ body recovered 20 minutes later. He and Miss Updegrove were to marry in October and he was building a home at Waola.
