U S Marines and Army infantry on a 20 mile front in Southeast Korea broke the enemy line, driving Red troops back nearly two miles. The Eighth Army reported the morning advance of the 25th Division and Marine Brigade covering a broad front with about 4 000 yards gained.

Army releases Korea War casualty totals through August
Army confirms 2,616 confirmed Korean War casualties through August 6. Of these, 153 were killed, 1,590 wounded in action, and 873 missing. Spokesmen stressed careful notification to families and that missing in action figures change daily. The briefing officer noted today’s missing total is lower than yesterday’s Far East figures. The Army said it is not hiding anything and aims for dignified notices.

Dying Air Force Crash Kills Seventeen at Fairfield-Suisun
Fire and explosions followed a B 29 crash during a long range training flight at Fairfield-Suisun California. Seventeen men died including Brig Gen Robert F Travis. Four people were injured when two autos crashed into wrecked Pennsylvanian Railroad freight cars blocking an underpass in Seward Cambria County. Weekend Crashes In Indiana County Injure Six
Two incidents left six people injured over the weekend in Indiana County. Elden Foust and Debora Baker, both in their early twenties, were struck along Route 259 near Robinson by a car driven by Pvt. Blair B. Shetler, with Foust sustaining multiple injuries and Baker suffering fractures and lacerations. In a separate crash on Route 22 near Blairsville, Michael Tirpak’s car skidded off the road injuring him and his wife Rose, while Mrs. Dzuro and her daughter Margaret were hospitalized for arm, head, and hip injuries. Vehicle damages ranged from $150 to $400.

France Will Rearm, Asks Tank Troops
France pledged a three year rearmament program to guard against Communist aggression and urged Britain and the United States to station enough divisions in continental Europe. The government said France will spend the equivalent of $5.71 billion on rearma ment and raise military spending from 420 billion to 500 billion francs next year. Safety program adds reflective bike strips for night riders

Woman Survives Seventh Floor Fall in Philadelphia
