Local musician Mike Harris turns teen dream into show business success
Boyish outburst ends in a gift big enough to launch a career. Mike Arndt Harris, gifted organist and pianist, transformed practice into a paid professional life after receiving a $1,500 Jowrey Holiday organ for Christmas. After Coast Guard service, he built a nightclub act in Florida and Pennsylvania, moved to California, and became a popular weekend performer at Tyro’s Supper Club and the Penthouse at the Holiday Inn. His repertoire spans old standards, Broadway scores, and pop hits, with a Hammond B3 setup and multiple keyboards driving his sound.
