Dow Inches Ahead as Bank Rate Cut Boosts Market
The New York stock market gained narrowly after a day of profit taking. The Dow Jones average rose about 32 points to around 849. The day saw mixed breadth with 707 advances to 645 declines as volume eased to 16.08 million on the NYSE. The S&P 500 inched up 0.71 to 90.18 while Nasdaq composites rose to 18.91.
