Cook ordered the postponement to allow transcripts from Newton's second trial to be produced, covering issues from overturning a 1964 assault conviction to moving to dismiss the grand jury indictment.

Watson found legally sane in Tate murder verdict

Los Angeles Superior Court jurors ruled Charles Tex Watson legally sane in the 1969 Tate murders case, clearing the way for a penalty trial to decide death or life in prison. The jury rejected diminished capacity claims and concluded Watson could distinguish right from wrong at the time of the crimes.
