Special Chair Aims to Contain Suspect in Robbery Trial
Long Beach robbery suspect Charles Casabian, 23, faced a specially bolted steel chair in Los Angeles court after shouting and lashing out. Ten deputies monitored as jury selection began while Casabian, shackled, awaited a verdict in the March 26 auto theft, robbery, and assault case involving Dr. Oner Barker. The chair, first used in a murder case against James Merkouris, was reinforced after a prior attempt to bolt it loosened.
