UPI reports Nobel chemist Harold Urey told a UC San Diego audience that moon rocks favor a collision origin for the moon about 4.5 billion years ago and that the body formed independently of earth. He cited NASA’s embargo on releasing exact findings and suggested water may have briefly existed on the moon.

Value of landing on Mars doubted by Apollo geologist
Dr. Eugene Shoemaker, Apollo field geologist leader, warned that a manned Mars trip could be another space spectacle. He argued the next 20 to 30 years should focus on solar system exploration with manned and unmanned missions and that Apollo era science could have been achieved with unmanned systems at far lower cost.
