In Vietnam fighting, Communists shelled the U S 1st Air Cavalry Division base 35 miles north of Saigon and attacked a northern coast post with light South Vietnamese casualties. Sixteen Communists died at a militia base near Quang Ngai as other installations and towns were hit.
Desperate Tunisia pleads for international aid after ten days of record rain. Mud and floods devastate half the country, destroying 50,000 homes and claiming more than 500 lives. Government seeks helicopters, bridges, sandbags, and corrugated iron from foreign missions.
The House Post Office Committee rejected President Nixon's proposal to replace the Post Office Department with a government chartered nonprofit mail service.
