Jones Motory Motley Deemed Deceased After Jail Incident

In Wetumpka Alabama a 27 year old Black man Motley Jones Motory died after an encounter with deputy Henry Connor following a drunkenness arrest attempt. The Justice Department investigates with neighbors and three youths present. Witnesses describe Motley being struck on the head with a large black object during the confrontation.

Meredith's assailant given five year term

Norvell, a Memphis resident, pleaded guilty to assault and battery with intent in the Mered ity shooting case and was sentenced to five years in prison with three years suspended. The judge overruled defense motions to dismiss the indictment, and Norvell remains free on bond until December 2. The case ties to Meredith’s June shooting during the Mississippi freedom march.
