County to Seek U S Methadone Funds for Addicts
County supervisors authorized officials to pursue up to 250000 in federal funds to expand the methadone maintenance program for hard core heroin addicts. Health Officer Dr. Gerald Heidbreder said the Office of Economic Opportunity backs reducing the waiting list of more than 4000, with 550 currently in treatment and 150 new patients possible before July. The 1972-73 budget allocates about 580000 for the program.
