Little Comfort for Convalescents
A hospital setting shows how staff efforts lift mood in convalescence with small acts of kindness. Nurses, aides, and volunteers offer visits, conversations, and simple touches like turning beds and shaving patients, while a USC gerontology expert notes underused patient needs and staff time limits. Local efforts like Long Beach Friendly Visitors program supplement care with letters, readings, and special occasion cards.
