Proxmire Charges Air Force Juggled C5A Costs
Sen. William Proxmire accused the Air Force of manipulating cost figures to hide overruns on the C5A jet transport. He planned to publish briefing documents showing reallocations between production runs to inflate paper costs and protect Lockheed from penalties. The senator said the total cost could be about 5.2 billion dollars, nearly 2 billion more than 1965 estimates, with spare parts cited as a factor.
