Poison Gas Disposal Was Secret
Washington Interior Department said the Army did not consult it about plans to dump 27 000 tons of surplus poison gas at sea until two days after public disclosure. Assistant Interior Secretary Glasgow said the department opposed sea disposal in principle but endorsed it as least objectionable to complete the job. Rep McCarthy cited an engineer who suggested destroying the gas in a year with caustic soda. The Army had claimed a five year burn time.

The scene followed a separate incident in Colorado City where a bull snake disrupted power, causing a 20 minute outage at a local substation.

Navy to Name New Skipper for Lost Pueblo
Washington Navy officials say a new skipper will be named for the captured USS Pueblo still held by North Korea. Cmdr. Lloyd M. Bucher, former Pueblo commander, has been reassigned to Monterey. the new captain would hold the Pueblo title along with other duties.

FDA head orders test of Finch edits over drug firm references
