Envoy Resigns as U S Ambassador to Cuba
President Eisenhower accepted the resignation of Arthur Gardner as U S ambassador to Cuba on Tuesday, terminating his post amid a diplomatic reshuffle. Gardner, a veteran appointee, had served in Havana during a period of tense relations and cordial exchanges between Washington and Havana. His departure opens a vacancy at a sensitive embassy as the administration recalibrates Latin American policy.

Five Convicts In Free-for-All Fight At San Quentin
Five San Quentin inmates staged a violent free-for-all during a prison incident that left two wounded. The attackers used a prison-made weapon and razor blades, while guards and a narcotics suspect were also involved in the broader disturbance. Hospitalized were Robert Martinez and Jerry White, both 21, with lacerations, and Richard Areso-Dillon, 33, a narcotics violator, among others. Authorities investigated the fight as part of a wider effort to curb narcotics and inmate violence.
