Pipeline fueled crowded rooming houses in Fairbanks Alaska
In Fairbanks pipeline workers seek shelter in crowded rooming houses charging 10 dollars a night or 40 dollars a week. Advertised bunks range from 7.50 to 10 per night with several houses housing 26 to 45 people. Fire safety and zoning violations prompt officials to consider court action as none of ten inspected houses met fire codes.
