The Long Beach division of the California Retired Teachers Association shows retirement as a chance to stay engaged. Thelma Henderson notes 110 surveys reveal members volunteer widely, join political, business and fraternal groups, and pursue arts, travel and teaching. Thelma highlights INA Potter a former speech teacher now a professional parliamentarian who travels and lectures internationally while directing camps and leading adult classes. Carl T. Dobbs aids Quaker Gardens and InterCity Service, while the Burt sisters volunteer for cancer work, photography, and Rancho Los Cerritos duties. They chair and serve on PEO and Sierra Club activities, give talks, drive patients, and create slide shows representing California travel and culture.
