The April unemployment rate rose slightly in Los Angeles County from 6.1 to 6.2 percent and in the state from 6.2 to 6.5 percent after seasonal adjustment. County employment climbed to 3,148,000 with 7,700 more jobs. unemployment fell to 197,200. State employment reached 86,096,600, up 73,600 from March, while job seekers dropped 64,000 to 516,000. Sigurd Hansen called the rise insignificant compared with the 64,000 fewer job seekers and 73,500 more employed, noting seven straight months of year over year employment gains.
