White dedicated educator and community pillar in Long Beach
Mrs. Willie A. White, arriving in 1935 from Oklahoma, built a long tenure in Long Beach’s black community. She helped seven girls gain college educations, now a director of the Bouggess-White Scholarship Foundation which since 1956 has awarded 83 scholarships of 300 dollars each. The foundation funds 10 annual grants and hosts a spring tea with Mississippi Polytech High School choir. White also serves as organist at St. John’s Baptist Church and notes race relations in Long Beach are very good as homes rise and connections improve.
