New plan to desegregate Boston schools via limited busing
A court panel unveiled a September desegregation plan for Boston public schools that would bus 10,000 to 15,000 students, fewer than the current 18,000, and mix racial percentages district by district from East Boston's 85 percent white 10 percent black to Roxbury's Burke district at 25 percent white 50 percent black. The plan aims to desegregate more classrooms with less controversy and violence than the interim plan.
