Immigrant Dreams and Realities Highlighted in Long Beach Story
A family from Holland arrives seeking the American dream but faces hardship as job prospects vanish. The piece traces Chris Breemer and his wife Nel with children Agnes Betty and Peter at 2107 E Ath St Long Beach as he searches for work, recounting how sponsorships can fail and the pull of opportunity clashes with reality. It contrasts optimistic immigration rhetoric with a hard-edged search for employment and stability in a new land.
