Police substation in LA Harbor aims to expand if demand exists

A part time Los Angeles police substation in the strip near Lomita Boulevard opened in January at 22601 Normandie Ave and now operates Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 6 pm with one officer and a civilian. Cap Roger L. Mairs says expansion depends on demand as the facility reduces a seven mile trip to the main desk and supports routine reports and bicycle license issuance. The Harbor Division notes a 11 percent drop in crime in the strip last year, yet turnout at a recent meeting for residents to join the Harbor Division Police Community Council was low.
