Evangelist fined $2000 in car thefts in California
Arie Bud Chambers, a 43 year old evangelist with tainted tent revivals in Southern California and other states, was fined $2000 and given five years probation after a Los Angeles federal jury found him guilty on eight counts of interstate transportation of stolen vehicles and one count of conspiracy. Prosecutors say Chambers bought eight stolen cars from Michael David Thomas and sold them in other states at standard prices for profit. Chambers claimed he did not know they were stolen and only learned of involvement upon attempting to register the vehicles in Alabama.
