LeMay cites Soviet air power surpassing U S strength
Gen Curtis LeMay warned New York that the Soviet Union has an estimated 20 000 aircraft in organized units and a similar number in reserve with thousands more held by satellites. He said the Soviets already outnumber and nearly match the quality of Western air power and that the U S minimum wings would take until 1955 to 1957 to reach. LeMay urged maintaining a strong air program to meet the threat.
