Twelve civilians and one apprentice seaman were hurt in a flash explosion at 12 15 am aboard a fleet oiler tied to Pier 4. Workman Lenn R Drennan 47 suffered first and second degree burns while firefighter Philip Murphy 33 inhaled fumes and was hospitalized after treatment. The blast occurred in No 3 centerline tank of the USS Cimmaron at Seaside Hospital.
