Wounded Yanks Burned Alive in Korean Ambush
Survivors of a Communist ambush report fanatical Chinese forces burned wounded American prisoners alive and danced around the flames as GIs screamed. They described bayoneting, machine-gunning, and surrenders met with gunfire, amid a bloody retreat near Chosin reservoir. Three survivors from the 32nd Regiment testified, detailing brutal attacks, trucks blown, and soldiers forced from vehicles before being killed or burned.

A Ninth Corps spokesman said both the Ninth and F Corps were withdrawing generally to the south from the Sukchon Sunchon line to trade space for time. The line lay about 25 miles north of Pyongyang as the Allies pulled back to reorganize. In the east the Communist advance threatened 50,000 Allied troops and a Dunkerque evac plan toward Wonsan. UN forces destroyed materiel to deny it to the enemy as they retreated, while Communist underground activity grew in Pyongyang and mortar attacks hit the city outskirts. an American officer estimated 6000 armed underground members expected to rise.

Tighten Controls On All Exports
