Supervisors Seek Golf Course Lease
The Board of Supervisors moved to lease the Lakewood Country Club golf course to prevent subdivision for homes. Supervisor Herbert Luge asked officials to confer with Lakewood Park leaders to draft a county operated lease. Lakewood Park reported a net profit of 105000 last year from golf and club facilities amid 110000 from golf and 167000 from clubhouse revenues. County policy limits such acquisitions to emergencies, with a gentlemen's agreement for possible future county operation with Lakewood and Long Beach.

The decision halted the 650,000 CIO United Steelworkers strike and prompted plans to file injunctions to return plants to owners. Acting Atty. Gen. Perlman said the government would respond and seek delays if needed.
