Lutheran Synod Defeats Borrowing Ceiling Proposal
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod rejected a five million dollar ceiling on the board of directors borrowing power for three years. The convention favored unlimited borrowing for potential capital investments, while fiscal envelopes set each year’s budget. Advocates of the ceiling included Rev Wilbur Koenig of Dallas. those for removing it were Arthur Wellman, Henry Buck, and Merle J Hansen. The body also defeated a Pastoral Conference bid to tie budgets to previously given amounts and criticized congregations for lacking financial commitment in recent years.
