Long Beach Teachers Reject 4.5 Percent Wage Offer
Long Beach teachers rejected a 4.5 percent salary increase for the coming year after negotiations with the Board of Education. Anne Tubridy, chairwoman of the Certificated Employes' Council, said the unanimous vote came from the district's three teachers unions. The group had proposed a 12 percent raise and improved medical dental and eye care benefits, plus anniversary pay at 18, 21, and 24 years. The board would not alter medical or dental benefits and rejected the anniversary payments. Negotiations resume Tuesday as the board considers salary plans for classified staff at its meeting.
