Hearings set on oil revenue disparities in California
Public hearings on oil pricing practices costing Long Beach and other California producers millions in lost revenues will be held this summer. Federal official Charles Bails told Chamber Vice President Bud Albright that hearings on price imbalances between California oil and state oil will occur in weeks. Albright said parity could restore millions in revenue to local and state government, with Long Beach royalty owners potentially gaining about 1 million annually. Current 18 gravity crude in California sells 80 to 90 cents below other states, costing the tidel and fields about 36 million yearly, and Long Beach could gain 500,000 more if prices are equalized. Long Beach Chamber voted April 2 to back efforts by city, state, and California Independent Producers Association to petition the Federal Energy Commission for redress.
