Pilot denies coffin shift in jetliner scare
Captain Bryce E. McCormick, who safely landed a crippled American Airlines jet in Detroit, dismissed theories that a coffin shifted and opened a cargo hatch. He recalled a loud bang from a jammed rudder pedal and said turbulence could not move a 331 pound coffin. He spoke after arriving at Los Angeles Airport, noting the crew kept passengers safe during the explosive decompression, then joked about the Canadian skis.

Senators Seek Lockheed Loan Records From Nixon Admin
The Senate Banking Committee voted 9-5 to urge the Nixon administration to release to the General Accounting Office the records of the $250 million Lockheed Aircraft loan. Sen William Proxmire urged disclosure, saying continued refusals fuel suspicion the Emergency Loan Guarantee Board hides adverse financial information about the firm.
