FBI Headquarter Project Nears Finish on Pennsylvania Ave
The new FBI headquarters on Pennsylvania Avenue is a seven story, $70 million to $102.5 million structure set for completion by June 1974. Delays and rising materials costs threaten the schedule, with early plans dating to 1962 and ground broken in 1967. J. Edgar Hoover’s retirement timing is linked to move completion, observers say. The project is among the most expensive government buildings, including land acquisition and design costs.

Substructure Phase Underway for Landmark Building Project
Ground level work began last August on a major building project. Completion is planned for June 14 at about 5 million dollars. The project then moves to erecting seven story front and eleven story rear sections along Pennsylvania Avenue and Street. Bids for the final stage were opened by the GSA on Thursday. Blake Construction Co. Inc. of Washington DC, current contractor for the substructure, submitted the apparent low bid of 68.8 million dollars.
