Teen burglarized 400 homes to fuel drug habit
An 18 year old girl named Sherry Ami Cray admitted to breaking into about 400 homes to support a $159 drug habit between September 1970 and January 1971. Police traced her through license plates and fingerprints, ending with a stakeout at a trailer park where she returned with loot from two Miami Shores burglaries. Judge Murray Goodman sent her to Concept House, a live in rehab clinic, with up to five years in prison if progress stalls. Public defender Stephen Mechanic blamed lack of rehab programs for the push toward incarceration.
