Ports Row Over Agreement From Our National Bureau
Long Beach and two other California ports oppose proposed agreements between the Los Angeles and Oakland ports and four Japanese flag lines for new containership services. The Federal Maritime Commission ordered an investigation after complaints from Long Beach San Francisco and the Stockton Port District. The ports say the deal would be discriminatory and an unjust practice regulating freight handling and storage.

Long Beach Harbor Board Funds Cargo Protection Council
Long Beach Harbor Commissioners approved an 18,800 three year funding plan for the Cargo Protection Council of Southern California. An 11,000 grant will be issued this year with 5,500 in 1969-70 and 2,300 in 1970-71 as Los Angeles may follow toward self sufficiency. The council aims to shield cargo from theft fire weather and other losses with half its costs covered by shipping interests and the two ports.
