Scientists Map Earths Deadly Radiation Belt Findings From UC Lab
Berkeley AP report details UC physicists R Stephen White and Star C Freden of the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory who using a nose cone film from a Cape Canaveral rocket traced protons in the Van Allen belt. They say energy reaches up to 700 million electron volts and that at 770 miles altitude the radiation equals a monthly safe exposure, rising to lethal levels at 2000 miles.
