Nixon Sees Strengths Balanced in North for 1968 Race
Richard M. Nixon argued his strength on the southern edge of the Northeast plus a strong city campaign could blunt Rockefeller in the national race. He spoke in Baltimore and said the final contest should be very close and that the Republican nominee can win in November. A poll in several cities showed Rockefeller ahead of Humphrey and McCarthy among Black voters, while Humphrey led Nixon and McCarthy led Nixon in different matchups. Nixon planned heavy city campaigning and predicted a strong finish in the GOP race.
