Prison Can't Rehabilitate 'Big John' Jackson, Doctor Testifies

A doctor told Long Beach Superior Court that convicted murderer Johnny Clifford Jackson cannot be rehabilitated by further state prison time. Based on interviews and tests from juvenile and adult terms, the expert called Jackson “a mental defective or a borderline mental defective” with a poor long term prognosis. The penalty trial also heard from a Disneyland employee who witnessed Jackson ram a stolen Cadillac into a Sunbeam, killing its driver, as the case advances toward a verdict on execution or life in prison.

Anderson Will Stay in Race for GOP Post

Anderson will remain in the race for state Republican vice chairman despite pressure to withdraw in favor of Gordon Luce. Anderson said he discussed with Gov. Reagan's reps and GOP officials, and that both campaigns would wind down until a Thursday meeting with Reagan. He and Luce both endorse Reagan, and Luce staff reportedly pressured a graceful withdrawal. Also, Putnam Livermore of San Francisco is opposed for state chairman. Clothing valued at 327 dollars was stolen from Carmen Solorzano’s home on Gale Avenue after burglars forced a window entry.
