Urged to End Bombings Amid Hanoi Talks

Beverly Hills private U.S. visitor Ashmore urged Washington to stop bombing North Vietnam as a potential step toward peace. He reported Hanoi showed interest in a Peace Convocation and noted North Vietnam’s four points demand prior U.S. concessions. Ashmore said Hanoi seems unable to win militarily but won’t concede, warning the bombing question is pivotal to any future talks. He favors ending the war and would stop bombing if President were to negotiate. He spoke at a news conference for a Peace Convocation scheduled for Geneva in late May.
