Ike Gives AF Biggest Slice of Budget Defense Plan
The defense budget favors the Air Force with about 18.67 billion for the year starting next July while Army receives 9.26 billion and Navy 11.57 billion. The plan preserves Atlas and Titan missiles, slows Redstone and Hawk programs, and places an Atlas squadron as the first intercontinental missile unit replacing a piloted bomber. Congress eyes the total 40.8 billion spending amid debates over the administration stance on funding.
