Adams Freed by Sun as World Football League Standout Becomes Free Agent
Quarterback Tony Adams, leading passer in the World Football League, has been released from his contract with the Southern California Sun. Adams signed a three year deal but, waivered from the NFL prior to 1974, now becomes a free agent as his attorney notes. Sun officials say they do not expect to lose him for 1975. Adams, from Utah State, threw for 3 905 yards and 23 touchdowns this season, topping the league in yardage. He was drafted by San Diego but released. News mentions ongoing negotiations with NFL clubs and a possible return to the league with the Sun or another team. The Sun had missed late 1974 payments. Other Sun players were released earlier. A Sun spokesman stressed Adams’ release will not necessarily cost them 1975 participation.
