No January draft seen by Selective Service officials
Selective Service officials say it is virtually certain nobody will be drafted in January. If a new draft call arrives this week it could induct a few young men, but 30 days notice is required. Officials predict a 10,000 level draft in the last quarter of 1971, with the Army aiming for 892,000 men by 1972.

Military drug plan aims at junior grades
The U S Military Commands are weighing changes to its drug program including exempting officers and senior noncommissioned officers from urine tests. A spokesman noted many identified users are in the 18 to 24 age group among lower ranks. Rep G V Sonny Montgomery said a final decision has not been made and tests may shift to more spot checks in units while port tests decline. He cited the program's modest impact on overall efficiency and a reported Army user rate near 4.5 percent, down from 5.5 percent six months ago.
