College freshmen placements decline at U S universities
Berkeley reports the Carnegie Commission estimates up to 110000 freshman spots may go unfilled this year due to a recession and slowing growth. Total undergraduates rose 2.4 percent while first year enrollees fell slightly. black and Spanish surname enrollments rose, as did women.
