Drake Sails To New Albion In Calig era Commemoration
On December 13 1577 Sir Francis Drake left Plymouth aboard the Golden Hind and on June 17 1579 entered a bay near Point Reyes naming it New Albion Drake claimed the land for Queen Elizabeth and Drake’s Bay later became California. Drake departed New Albion July 23 1579 and returned to Plymouth September 26 1580 missing San Francisco Bay in the voyage.
