Hershey voices skepticism on volunteer draft at university
In Chicago last week and at American University, Lt. General Hershey urged study of a pure volunteer force, saying a fully all volunteer military may be ideal but warned against the draft being scrapped. He recounted his own volunteer service and defended voluntary service as the fair path, despite criticism from anti-draft groups. A small crowd applauded while peace demonstrators protested outside.
