Panama Canal tolls may rise up to forty percent under pact
U.S. officials testified that ratifying the Panama Canal treaty would lift tolls 25 to 40 percent. Major Gen. H. R. Parfitt and Howard F. Case told a House subcommittee that canal revenues would grow for Panama, prompting higher charges. Case said U.S. impact would be minor, though U.S. consumers could face higher prices for coffee and bananas from abroad.
