Sohio Terminal Emissions May Cut NOx but Worsen Local Air
Long Beach experts cite a 110 page staff report showing unloading 500000 barrels daily at the Sohio terminal would emit about 3600 pounds daily of NOx for 200000 barrels and 4000 more for 500000 additional barrels while SOx drops to 3100 pounds daily. air quality near port would fall then improve downwind, a conclusion contested by Norma Mayfield of the Long Beach League of Women Voters who warns PUC studies indicate health risks for residents north and east of the port.
