Salary Talks Drag On as Police Fire Plan Arbitration
Police and fire representatives entered bargaining together amid vague year rules. Fire Fighters Association president Harold Omel urged five listening city council members, warning the city could act unilaterally otherwise. Both sides oppose strikes, citing duty to protect lives and property. Binding arbitration is proposed by some, but others fear it limits taxpayer input. Retired City Manager Mansell’s absence is cited as delaying progress, with all parties set to address the City Council on Tuesday. Public support remains crucial leverage as morale reportedly holds steady pending outcome.
