The leading Polk County physician and Health Officer Dr Fryer wed Miss Ruby Averitt of Kentucky at a Castle Rock home. After a wedding trip through the Sound region to Seattle Victoria and Vancouver the couple will reside locally. Fryer, son of Mr and Mrs T J Fryer of Independence, has lived in Castle Rock years and is known for his genial manner and surgical skill.
The funeral for Musiey Mulkey of Monmouth who died in Portland began at 2 a m and was held at the Monmouth Christian Church Rev Wood officiated The service featured a wealth of floral tributes and strong respect from local parishioners Pallbearers included J S W Butler and others The deceased had been ill for two weeks and three operations at Portland failed to help his condition The Enterprise extends sympathy to his wife and family in this bereavement.
The Independence school reports about four hundred scholars enrolled under Professor Crowley. The Lyceum lecture by Count Col Sobieski drew few high school students, though officials expect a strong turnout next time as proceeds go to the high school student body.
Mr. White, manager of the Oregon Power Company at Dallas Independence, arrived Saturday evening with his wife and family. He is actively boosting for the company and reports favorable reception from his efforts, as shown by a large advertisement in its issue.
Plans call for a two story brick hotel with basement on the corner of Main and B Streets. The building will house 40 to 45 rooms, a hotel office, sample room, store room, kitchen and dining facilities with sleeping rooms on the second floor. Excavation began Wednesday. occupancy targeted for February first. A new bank is expected to open in temporary quarters before then.
Market reports indicate hop prices are climbing with growers holding abundant crops for higher offers. Geo L Rosa reportedly received 42 cents per pound at Salem, while many sellers wait for 50 cents, expecting prices to improve before winter. Independence reports a comparatively good hop crop and optimistic financial outlook for next year.
H G Rowe and Miss Naomi Kennard married in Portland at Calvary Presbyterian Church on October 16. Parents of the bride, traveling from Smith Center Kansas, attended. After brief wedding trip they will reside in Portland and be at home after November 15, with Enterprise sending hearty congratulations.
