Masked men rob poker game at Silets Logging camp
Two masked men held up a poker game at Camp 1 of Silets Logging last Saturday, taking about 400 dollars from players and onlookers. They entered just before noon, flashed guns, and escaped without harm. An operator was briefly threatened and robbed as well. Some locals suspect amateur criminals familiar with payday activity.

Independence to Host Corn Exhibit This December

Lawrence Compton’s Suver ranch house was destroyed by fire on a Wednesday night. Mrs. Compton, awakened by the baby, fled in her nightclothes with the infant and blankets. The large house had been bought from J. J. Thurston about a year earlier. Mr. Compton is a son of Clair Compton of Independence.
