A Pendleton message from head men of three Indian tribes requests release of tribal funds totaling 79 million dollars held by the U S government. They plan to present views to Congress with lawyers seeking a percentage of any funds obtained for the tribes. The funds arise from the sale of tribal lands.
The Oregon Trunk at Bend was completed Saturday at 4 o clock. Train and telegraph service will be established immediately in preparation for the October 2 railroad celebration when Hill will drive the golden spike. Chief Engineer Budd and Superintendent Rogers led the project.
A 75 year old resident of Haxeldell was fatally injured when a speeding auto driven by Paul Thomson a traveling salesman for a Portland Implement company struck him in Eugene. The accident occurred during a high speed drive by Thomson.
One hundred thousand young steelhead salmon and 16 000 Montana speckled trout fry are in the state’s first exclusive fish nursery on Meacham Creek, 24 miles east of Pendleton. The state fish and game commission starts a new plan to raise the young fish in nursery ponds until they reach a larger size.
