Storm Disrupts Power Line Between Monmouth and Dallas
A heavy wind damaged a Mountain States Power line between Monmouth and Dallas causing Independence and Monmouth to lose power from 11 AM to 1:80 PM, delaying the Enterprise. Additional wreckage included smashed plate glass at C A Kreamer and A L Kallander, a broken xeon, and the I M roundhouse blown over.

Polk Breeders Sweep Angora and Romney Honors at Portland Show
William Riddle and Sons and John Stump of Monmouth dominated Portland Angora goat classes securing top awards in both long and short fleece divisions. They led sheep entries with Lincoln, Cotswold and Romney breeds, earning seven firsts and champion ram in Cotswolds and sweeping Romney prizes aside from a single loss to McCaleb Bros. of Monmouth.

Polk county Jersey breeders from Frank Loughary & Son Monmouth and McArthur & Stauff Richreall topped the Pacific International Livestock exposition in Portland. Their herds earned 47 ribbons and 765 dollars, with Polk County taking more honors than any other county. The event featured 307 Jersey animals, a record at the time.

A. A. Turnbull and his nephew James Turnbull reached Independence from Hope North Dakota in 15 days covering 2000 miles in a Dodge Brothers touring car. They faced snow rain and subzero days with only one tire puncture and warn against easy Rockies travel this season. Turnbulls are tied to Buena Vista through H. Turnbull who opened a local store and planned new ventures. James has long run a family merchandising business in North Dakota.
